TV star and celebrity interior designer Celia Sawyer speaks to Property Divas

Posted on September 8th, 2015 by admin

This month, the Divas are delighted to introduce esteemed, celebrity interior designer Celia Sawyer, star of hit TV show Four Rooms, now in its fourth series, and her own prime-time BBC show Your Home in their Hands.

During the last decade, Celia has taken on exciting and challenging design projects, from luxury mansions in The Bishop’s Avenue to show homes and ocean-front living. Property Divas spoke to her about her recent work in a five bedroom Georgian mansion in St John’s Wood. It boasts a leisure complex, a double-volume living room, a master bedroom suite and the grandeur that is to be expected from an Avenue Road property. Celia worked tirelessly to realise this magnificent property’s potential.

The living space, towards the rear of the home, has been divided into two areas. This creates a formal environment at one end and more relaxed, social space at the other.

The sensation of opulence is created by rich claret and bronze tones. Black framed, bevelled glass furnishings and metallic details continue the theme.

“By keeping colour in your accent colours alone it means they are also easy to change, giving you more flexibly in the future,” Celia explains. “Mirrors can be cleverly positioned to maximise light and give the feeling of space,” she adds.
celia4Celia has sympathetically blended her signature contemporary style with the traditional features of this elegant house. It’s little wonder the recently sold property carried a £30m price tag.

Off screen, Celia collects art and rare pieces for her ever-growing client base of sports people, celebrities, entrepreneurs and influential global development companies. She is also a mother of two who enjoys family life and keeping fit.

Charity plays a significant role in Celia’s life. She is an Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and the face of the British Heart Foundation’s furniture and electrical stores, where she is also committee member for the charity’s Tunnel of Love event. In addition, Celia supports Help for Heroes, Dorset Air Ambulance, Variety Leonard Cheshire Disability, Well Child, Make a Wish, RNLI Life Boats and Great Ormond Street Hospital. This amazingly busy woman won the Inspiration Award for Women in 2013 which helps raises money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

You can see Celia in action in the brand-new series of Four Rooms, winner of the Royal Television Society award in 2014, on More 4 every Wednesday at 9pm. If you wish to learn more about Celia follow her on Twitter: @CeliaSawyerTV and Instagram: celia_sawyer.
